Learning How to Create a Restore Point

by Jerome Barnett

Restore points are an important feature for any Windows user to become familiar with. They are like snapshots of your computer’s state, and can be created at any time. It is recommended to only create restore points at a time when your computer is running smoothly.

What’s so great about a restore point?

Basically, restore points act as a sort of reference point for your computer. In the event of some sort of error or problem with your computer, you have the option to simply revert back to that point of reference. So rather than having to reinstall an operating system and reinstate all of your preferred programs and settings, you can restore your computer to a point before encountering the error.

Where do I go to create a restore point?

Restore points are very simple to create. Just go to your start menu and click on “Help and Support”, then click on “Performance and Maintenance”. From there find the option on the menu for “Restore Point”. This brings you to a list of possible tasks, including “Create a Restore Point”.

Now all you have to do is to follow the prompts that Windows gives and you will have a brand new restore point created in no time! The restore point that you create will have effectively saved all of your computer’s settings and preferences at the time the point was created, making it very important to be sure and create restore points when your computer is running smoothly.

How do I use a restore point to restore my computer?

First, go to the “Help and Support” menu from the start menu again. This time, instead of clicking on “Create a Restore Point” option, click “Restore my computer to an earlier time”. Now you can choose from any of the restore points that have been created and your computer will revert to the settings of the computer at the time the point was made.

Restore points are a great tool for any Windows user, but it should be noted that they aren’t infallible. With this in mind, users should always backup any files that they consider important on a regular basis. But even though restore points don’t always solve the problem, they should still be considered an option for Windows users encountering an error on their PC.
